The Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve has been included in TIME magazine’s list of the World’s Greatest Places, which highlights 100 destinations that are breaking new ground, leading industry trends and offering visitors an extraordinary experience.
According to TIME’s website, it solicited nominations for the list across a variety of categories from its editors and correspondents around the world, as well as from travel industry experts. TIME evaluated each one based on several key factors, including quality, originality, innovation, sustainability and influence. The result is a list with entries spanning six continents and 48 countries.
“We are honored by TIME to have this designation,” said Sun Valley resident Stephen Pauley, who led the effort to create the reserve. “It is the result of a fine team effort, a process that spans over 19 years. It is a tribute to the city councils who created our dark sky ordinances, to our cities that have shielded our street lights and to the residents of the Wood River Valley who have fully shielded their outdoor lights so all may look up and be amazed by the night sky.”
The reserve includes the cities of Ketchum, Sun Valley and Stanley, and spans 1,416 square miles. For more information, see http://idahodarksky.org/.
